Translator is a new magazine of translated journalism and reportage from around the world.

Rooted in the belief that language can be a bridge – not a barrier – Translator confronts the limitations of the Western hegemonic news cycle.

While traditional outlets flatten global diversity into single narratives, Translator listens for nuance. It amplifies local perspectives and celebrates the art of translation as a craft that reveals meaning, rather than erasing difference.

The core team collaborates with contributing editors, translators, writers and publishers around the world. Translator curates and translates journalism and non-fiction writing from beyond the Anglosphere, and explores the role of language itself in shaping our world.

The debut issue of Translator will be published in June 2025. Inside, you’ll find journalistic reportage, first-person accounts, reviews and an excerpt from Lily Meyer’s novel The Hunter –appearing in English for the first time.

Plus: Jen Calleja in conversation with Gregor Hens, Street Talk from Medellín, Beirut and
beyond, and Sophia Smith Galer on the ripple effects of English being named the official
language of the US.
