Following the success of Letterform Variations, Nigel Cottier explores the alphabet as a medium in his new book Alphabetic Playground. He has created a catalogue of numerous alphabets and letterforms (an estimated 7,000 unique letterforms!), all created using a range of systems, codes and themes to create expression and form within the confines of the alphabetic code. One example is Letters within Letters: An alphabetic system in which each letterform can contain multiple letters, so that a single text can actually contain multiple messages.
