Author’s statement by Kobi Franco:
“As a designer, artist, creator, and researcher, I am wholly devoted to my creative work. The book Molecular Typography Laboratory is the product of an experimental and speculative exploration of the Hebrew alphabet, words, and language. This research expanded and evolved, using the same parameters, into a visual investigation of the Latin alphabet as well. The book represents a formalist-typographic study that remains entirely disconnected from issues of politics or conflict. To some degree, the project seeks to foster dialogue between languages and cultures, highlighting what unites rather than what divides. Art, by its nature, transcends geographical boundaries, and this project is dedicated to the infinite and boundless realm of typography. My personal opposition to the Israeli government and its actions is irrelevant to the project, which is entirely apolitical.”
Slanted Publishers stands for open and diverse dialogue between cultures. In our internationally available publications, we present the broad spectrum of ideas and perspectives represented in contemporary graphic design and typography. Our collaboration with designers and type foundries worldwide is guided by mutual respect, appreciation, and the acceptance of differing opinions.
We view Kobi Franco’s book as an exciting and innovative project where Occident and Orient intersect. We believe that this exchange is fundamentally important for fostering understanding and mutual appreciation.
Beyond our professional stance, we observe the events in the Middle East with deep concern. We unequivocally condemn the Hamas attack on Israel in October 2023, and we also grieve for the civilians in Gaza who have been deprived of almost all their means of livelihood. We firmly believe in upholding international law and recognize the urgent need for diplomatic solutions.
We hope that Kobi’s theses and insights receive the recognition and attention they deserve for their contribution to this field.
