How do you start writing creatively? How do you teach creative writing and practice it? This Manifesto recommends jumping straight into the deep end and
simply doing it yourself.

Over the past few decades, the worlds of art and literature have been drawn closer together by mutual attraction. More and more artists have been exploring the written word as an artistic medium alongside painting, video and performance, while more and more writers and poets have been producing forms of literature for exhibition or performance. As a result, the approaches employed on either side have been mutually enriched, expanding the playing field in both realms of creative expression.

Based on their own experience as writers and creative writing workshop leaders at art schools, the two authors of this Manifesto draw on a rich array of innovative and often art-related literary experiments to suggest a whole bunch of recipes for creative writing—replete with corresponding exercises that anyone can do, even if they’ve never tried their hand at creative writing before.
