Challenge the\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003ci\u003emind\u003c\/i\u003e.\u003c\/b\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIn 1964, Philadelphia's own \u003ci\u003eDrum\u003c\/i\u003e\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003ebecame the most widely circulated gay magazine in the U.S., fusing news, erotica, and satire to push queer visibility into the mainstream.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cb\u003e2. Move the\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003ci\u003ebody\u003c\/i\u003e.\u003c\/b\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWell before Stonewall, in 1965, queer and trans Philadelphians staged one of the first organized protests for LGBTQIA+ rights in the U.S.: Dewey's sit-ins.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cb\u003e3. Touch the\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003ci\u003esoul\u003c\/i\u003e.\u003c\/b\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003ePhiladelphia soul soundtracked the world with lush strings, deep grooves, and extended mixes, becoming source material for early house music. Earl Young, session drummer for MFSB, The Trammps, and other bands, pioneered the four-on-the-floor kick that moved from 1970s Philly studios into disco, then house and techno.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cb\u003e4. Keep it going.\u003c\/b\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e30 years of Ballroom, with icons like Kevin Jz Prodigy, Robbie Tronco, VJtheDJ, and DJ Delish defining its sound. Renegade parties. DIY spaces. Mutual aid.\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003eBlock parties.\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003eLumberyard raves. Protests. Crowdfunds. Takeovers. Warehouses.
